Reading/Language Arts Overview
The district will continue to use the SchoolWide program for the base of its reading instruction. Students will learn about being part of a Reading Workshop. This is where the class will gather to discuss what we are reading together and independently. Students will have a monthly reading log. This should be completed almost every night after they read. Reading Logs will be due the first day of the following month. We will also follow a Writer's Workshop model for writing. Students will complete a narrative piece, an opinion piece, and an informational piece of writing at the beginning and end of the year. Students will also write smaller pieces on a weekly basis. Grammar this year will be incorporated into our writing. For example, when we are learning about sensory details, students will focus on identifying and using good adjectives.
